Making Movement Something to Look Forward To
Movement can do more than strengthen muscles and improve balance. At The Birches at New Hope, it’s also an opportunity to connect with others, rediscover favorite activities, and enjoy the benefits of staying active while giving residents another reason to look forward to the day.
The Birches partners with FOX Rehabilitation to offer FOX Stronger Living, an on-site wellness program that gives both personal and memory care residents opportunities for daily movement and exercise.
Residents can participate in morning and afternoon classes, with clinicians adapting exercises to residents’ physical and cognitive abilities. Classes incorporate low-impact movement, resistance band training, and seated options, allowing residents to participate comfortably. The Birches also offers a spacious therapy gym with exercise bikes, weights, and other multi-purpose equipment, providing another way for residents to work toward their individual goals.
As the program has grown, so has the culture around it. Kathy P. makes a point of bringing Sandra G., who uses a wheelchair, to exercise class. Sandra embraced the opportunity and quickly became a regular. During one session, she shared stories about playing tennis and smiled as she talked about what it felt like to be moving again.
“While everyone’s goals look different, moments like that remind us that staying active is about reconnecting with interests, memories, and the confidence to keep moving forward,” said Kevin Mallon, FSL fitness specialist.
At The Birches, Stronger Living is more than a fitness program. It’s becoming part of daily life, with residents encouraging one another, celebrating progress, sharing in the experience, and finding connection through movement.
Bucks County Artist’s Work Finds a Home at The Birches at New Hope
A landscape painting by a well-known Bucks County artist now hangs at The Birches at New Hope, following a donation from Patrick Walsh and his wife, Elaine Gibbs.
